Brisbane Floods Aftermath II

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

I ventured in to Southbank today to see how the clean up was going.
Brisbane Photo Walks (my guided tour for visitors to Brisbane), will be ‘on hold’ for a few weeks yet.

It was disheartening to see how badly affected Southbank and South Brisbane have been. It seems doubtful we will be celebrating Australia Day 2011 at Southbank.

Brisbane Flood Aftermath 2011

It’s been a gut wrenching week, an emotional rollercoaster for us all.
So much has been written, I don’t want to add more. I find it hard to express the depth of my feeling without succumbing to terrrible sadness.
I will say that many stories of courage and selfless acts of generosity have come out to reassure us that our world has not gone mad.
Today I read that 3 echidnas were saved, they were found on the Sandgate waterfront.

Until today I’ve heeded the pleas of the Police and stayed away from the badly hit areas and off the roads.
Today I had important business in the CBD so I took a little time to document the aftermath.

Outside the Boardwalk Cafe, which used to be our favorite place for a glass of wine in the late afternoon.

Did the Jazz Club survive? It was wonky already, with a sloping floor – you can just see it nestled among the trees.
